Julian Rachlin will be the main protagonist of the sixth program of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería's 2023 Summer Season. Not only will he conduct it, but also, in classical style, he will perform the solo part of Felix Mendelssohn's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. Who is Julian Rachlin?
Julian Rachlin was born in Lithuania and moved with his family to Austria at the age of three. He studied violin with Boris Kuschnir at the Private University of Music and Art in Vienna and later specialized in New York under the guidance of Pinchas Zukerman.

Julian Rachlin is to perform Felix Mendelssohn's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, a work about which Juan Arturo Brennan explains:
"The gestation of the piece began in 1838, when the composer wrote to his friend, the violinist Ferdinand David, about his intention to compose a concerto especially for him. Subsequent correspondence between Mendelssohn and David furthered the composer's plans, and a few years later the concerto was completed. Mendelssohn composed the concerto in Solden, near Frankfurt, during a period of holiday rest. The score was completed on September 16, 1844, and the work was premiered in Leipzig on March 13, 1845. It seems that Ferdinand David was a highly competent violinist, respected and admired by his contemporaries in the same way that Joseph Joachim was by his own. Mendelssohn's esteem for David was such that when he became conductor of the famous Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra he insisted that his violinist friend be the concertmaster. Indeed, David took the position of first violin in Leipzig in 1843 and held it until his death in 1873. During that period he was also a professor at the Leipzig Conservatory and collaborated closely in the composition of Mendelssohn's Concerto Op. 64, so that many of the work's instrumental highlights are due to him. Today this Mendelssohn Violin Concerto is indisputably at the top of the repertoire, alongside concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) and Jean Sibelius (1865-1957)."
