Ever since our first season, in the summer of 1978, the Minería Symphony Orchestra has been committed to excellence. Forty-five years later, we are immensely proud to have received five Grammy nominations, to have won the Latin Grammy in the “Best Classical Composition” category for our recording of Paquito D’Rivera’s “Venezuelan Concerto” featuring Pacho Flores on trumpet, and to be the first Mexican orchestra to record with the legendary Deutsche Grammophon label, according to the newspaper El País.

All these distinctions make the Sinfónica de Minería, under the artistic direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto, one of the most prestigious orchestras in Latin America.

But beyond the prestige of the Mining Symphony, at the Mining Palace Music Academy we represent a profound and permanent educational project. Our commitment is not only to excellence, but also to all that music represents for humanity: magic, social reconstruction, inclusion, community work and hope.

I have the privilege of coinciding as president of the Music Academy of the Mining Palace -together with outstanding advisors and a great administrative team- in a moment of enormous potential to grow and attract new audiences, as a result of the environment and accelerated process of innovation that we have sustained for some time.

As a result of a great internal and external effort, we detected the opportunity to renew ourselves and express all this with a new institutional identity that will distinguish us from now on.

The symbolic beginning of this new era to be discovered took place on January 22, 2024 at the Nezahualcóyotl Concert Hall with a concert comprised of works that represent three of the foundational axes of our project that are still in force:

Clara by Gabriela Ortiz as a reaffirmation of our commitment to permanently commission and premiere music written by Mexican people.

The orchestral suite of the ballet El amor brujo by Manuel de Falla as a reaffirmation of our commitment to perform monumental works (in terms of orchestral dimension) and of high technical demand that are infrequent in the programming of Mexican orchestras.

Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Heroic, as a reaffirmation of our commitment to interpret the great milestones of the history of music from a sound of excellence. We have much to tell -much to sing-, and with this new voice and harmony we will remain current and proactive to always continue being "the orchestra that dares to play when no one plays, what no one plays, and that plays like no one else...".
